Yongguk had already moved out from his parents’ home for years now, so he didn’t understand why they still insisted on dragging him back for pointless events and socializing. Nonetheless, his father had given him the look that said he would be going even if the other had to bodily dragged him there. Sighing, Yongguk glanced around at the people around him, resigned to his fate. Well, lose a battle and win a war, right?
Pressing his lips into a thin smile, he bowed greetings to people whose faces he vaguely remembered seeing before, but whom he could not remember for the life of him. He was used to formalities, though, so adjusting his tie and sleeves slightly, he kept up the appearrance of the proper, filial son. No point embarrassing his parents and causing trouble over nothing. As the people milling about settled into tables for a meal, though, Yongguk’s smile brightened genuinely for the first time that night, as he caught sight of someone familiar.
“Yo, Junhong!” he called out, ignoring the reproachful glances his parents shot him for the informal speech. Their families were close, and so Yongguk found himself often meeting the other at formal events. His parents frowned at the ruckus they caused, but tolerated them for the sake of conversing with Junhong’s family. Today happened to be one of those times they were seated together, and Yongguk grinned as he dropped into the seat next to the other, ruffling his hair as he did so. “How’ve you been?”
